After years spent wandering over the moors of the Dark Peak, Steve Withington emerged onto the streets of Sheffield with his monochrome landscapes and colourful abstract paintings in the closing years of the twentieth century.
In the autumn of 2001 after exhibiting his artwork to the Sheffield public for seven years he mysteriously disappeared. No one is quite sure where he went. There were rumours of alien abduction.
Steve resurfaced in 2004 with new ideas and inspirations.
During 2004 he created a series of images which he describes as disposable urban landscapes. Taken on a low grade agfa digital camera, these primitive images (640x480 pixels) were coarsely manipulated using the GIMP (a free image manipulation program).
Lately Steve has become interested in the Deedahist movement and has been collaborating with Carlos Barcode and the Monkey Collective.
Steve has five children - Tanysha, Henry, Natasha, Isabella and Molly - all of whom show artistic promise. He loves jazz, good beer and hills.
