It was the end of a dismal performance - my only win in the league. The game itself was a very intense affair. My opponent, Chris Willey, stifled any plans I had and soon my king's side was a mess. The usual match nerves had set in and whilst in the toilet I thought I'd need some sort of miracle to escape an early defeat. I returned to the table to see that Chris had left his queen en prise. At first he laughed and said how it had been a long time since anyone had asked his age. He must have been in his thirties with a five o'clock shadow. Towards the end of the game I made a couple of blunders and basically rolled over and died, but to be honest was pretty cramped early on due to positional errors. That's three in a row now. I'm enjoying online chess and less formal over the board stuff, but it's the competitive rated games that count.
